thinkin' about it thursday.

thirst.

so, the other day, we were outside playing, and will and I look over to see that cy had gotten up on the bbq countertop (via a barstool) and made his way over to the sink.  he turned on the water and did his yoga-esque movements to get a drink.  then, he turned it off and got down.  I guess he thought it was too much to go into the house and get a cup and fill it with water for a drink.  

uhhhhhhhh, nope, I've never been THAT thirsty!

train day.

it must've been national train day recently, because the trains at our house got the royal treatment the other day.  they got really yummy breakfast:

and then they got their very own parade, in which farmer john and farmer brown got the honor of riding in:

trains. thank goodness we don't have to live without them.

five months.

five alive:

wait, are we still alive?  yep.  still tired, still alive.  one day I know this child will sleep, and I'm super excited for that day.  but, for now, I'm glad he hammed it up for pictures!!

lane weighs 15 lbs. 12 oz. he sits up by himself, rolls from tummy to back (and back to tummy -once), and he loves to stand - holding on to things, of course. he talks and laughs and spits and drools(excessively), and loves being entertained by cy. when he really likes something, he smiles with his whole body, and it is the cutest thing you have ever seen!

yeah, we're smitten by this kid. I guess we'll keep him.

my favorite stages.

I've been telling people my favorite stage is the two-and-a-half-year-old stage.  but, I forgot about the rice cereal stage.  the rice cereal stage is definitely my favorite.  I love the birdie mouth right before the first bite, I love the huge, huge mess it makes, no matter how hard I try to "keep it clean."  I love him trying to figure out how to chew (or gum) and swallow, instead of sucking.  and I love the total enjoyment I see when he eats it.

and, in other news:

yep, he's only 4 months and 3 weeks and there it is.  cy was 8 1/2 months when we saw his first tooth.  YAY!  only another year of fussiness........awesome.

potty training.
we've been trying to make cy more aware of the potty.  I'll admit I haven't given potty training a good try yet, because I'm just plain lazy.  (and grossed out by the thought.)  who wants to clean the carpet and the bathroom floor and the toilet and the underwear and the child in the shower and then put on new clothes and then do another load of laundry?  not me.  I will change diapers.  he does go in the potty every night while we are getting him ready for bed and I make sure to praise him a lot.  so, this one morning I know cy is about to make a dirty diaper and I ask him, "cy do you want to go poopy in the big boy toilet?!?!?"
and he says, "yes, mommy!"  
so, I strip him down and he gets on the toilet and tells me to "move."  I go out of the bathroom and give him a couple of minutes and.........nothing.  so, I get a diaper and underwear and say, "do you want a baby boy diaper or big boy mcqueen underwear?"  
he chooses the diaper, I put it on and he has a dirty diaper a minute later.  meanwhile, will is using the bathroom and I tell cy, "see cy, look, daddy is using the big boy toilet." 
cy proceeds to go into the bathroom, raise both hands and yells, "YAY!  daddy!!  GOOD JOB!!"  
yes, yay - we are all glad daddy is potty trained.
and that's what I'm thinkin' about today.
